Like an organically growing structure, a complex form develops out of a suprisingly simple element. Available in white, ruby red and chrome plastic modules – each with three light bulbs – which can be added to each other, so the ligthing object can vary in size, from a single format up to a cluster.

the designer of the El Salvador that make a beautiful lamp waste. In January we get information and CH07 Dancers lamp series in which he used to light the egg carton designers. Wildly creative and environmentally conscious, but really nice and professional. LOTO is an organically inspired lamp series that takes its characteristics from the lotus flowers.  Like inmaculate lotus flowers that grow within muddy swamps, Loto lamps are born from oceans of plastic debris. The Loto series is an eco-experimental body of work that transforms discarded household materials into precious objects, allowing plastic to be reborn to educate consumers about sustainable design.

Called Sur les Rivages Designed by Amandine Chhor & Aïssa Logerot. The project aims to find new applications for the traditional craft in order to use up the plant, which grows extremely quickly and is causing environmental problems.

from Amandine Chhor & Aïssa Logerot :
The project sur les rivages proposes to revaluate the weaving craft of water hyacinth in Cambodia. This aquatic plant is harmful because it causes many environmental, sanitary and economic problems. Working over a 3 months trial period, in collaboration with Osmose  association and the women of Saray cooperative from the floating village of Prek Toal, the idea of this project was to experiment this organic material and the weaving techniques, in order to find new applications for the invasive plant. Cambodia, a country undergoing reconstruction, is trying to revive traditional crafts which have disappeared during the genocide. Here more than elsewhere, the design can help to upgrade some of these skills and become the link between technique, form and use.

This series of wooden LED lamps by Zoe Coombes and David Boira of New York studio Cmmnwlth is called Truncheons.

clip_image002

The collection includes a pendent lamp, a free-standing one to be leaned against a wall and a desk lamp  that rotates freely in its gypsum and marble base.

clip_image003

Each is circled grooves across the grain, created by a CNC lathe.

The duo created the range for new furniture  brand MatterMade.

Photographs are by Jean-Charles Tomas.

clip_image006

Here are some more details from the designers:

The Truncheons are a family of lamps consisting of a suspension, an articulated task lamp, and a freestanding Truncheon to be rested against a wall.

clip_image007

Harnessing the tooled traces left by a CNC lathe, the Truncheon body is surfaced with a delicate, metered scallop.

clip_image008

At close viewing, the rhythm of these cross-grain scallops creates a soft interplay with the more linear wood grain of the maple and walnut. Each lamp holds an LED bulb which is warm in color, yet cool to the touch.

clip_image009

Viewed indirectly from the lamp’s interior hardwood surfaces, the light  emitted is rich in quality while maintaining the efficient characteristics that has driven the development of LED light.

clip_image010

The Truncheon task lamp  sits in a poured, weighted base of gypsum and marble. Free of electrical components, the heavy base allows the arm of the lamp to make a soft rotation.

clip_image011

Avoiding unnecessary knobs or switches, the Truncheons adhere to their namesake – precise, compact sticks fashioned out of traditional materials.

The Truncheon series was designed by Zoe Coombes & David Boira of Cmmnwlth for ‘MatterMade’ and is available exclusively through Matter, New York.
