Conventional photographs of the Sphinx, such as the one featured in this month’s issue of Smithsonian magazine, are taken looking west and give the impression that the figure and the three pyramids sit in a remote Egyptian desert. The reality is that urban development of Cairo and Giza have brought the cities to within easy walking distance, as one can see from a Google satellite view.  This photo, taken from inside a nearby fast food location, emphasizes that reality in a dramatic fashion.

Kolelinia is a concept for riding our own bikes on a steel wire, a new type of bicycle-lanes…
Created by Bulgarian architect Martin Angelov. The steel track would feature a guy wire to attach your bicycle to at the handlebar level, and the concept includes detailed track design. Check out more see more pics.

Seoul metro stations still use old school ad boards but designer Changhee Kang thinks his AD projection system called Motion Graphic might keep commuters more entertained. The large screens show of all things – birds. Not pretty blue jays or cute parakeets but black birds. The sight of a swarm of black birds flying by as a train enters the station sure will wake sleepy commuters but I can’t help and think of the scene from Hitchcock’s The Birds. On the other hand all that real estate should give advertising agencies a kick in the creative noggin dreaming up the best way to sell you a Hyundai.
