Eco Factor: Newly built training facility utilizes solar heating for its operations.

The newly built Tesseract Building at A Wrinkle in Thyme Farm will now utilize rooftop solar panels to supply hot water for washing and dyeing the wool from the farm’s Angora goats. All this was made possible by the support of the Maine Department of Agriculture, Maine’s Farms for the Future Program, the Natural Resources Conservation Service and the U.S. Department of Agriculture Rural Development.

The fiber-arts building, which just recently opened its doors, is a learning center for those, who wish to make a career in needle felting, wet felting and knitting. Two years ago, one could see ‘wool hanging in the kitchen, in the bathroom and everywhere else they could hang it’, and a stove that heated water for dyeing wool. Now, all has changed for good.
