Super Prosthetics Project marks the ingress of conventional prosthetics into the realm of user want, making artificial limb an extension of natural movement rather than a scientific creation that imitates life. Conducted with the help of Holly Franklin the Super Prosthetics Project endeavors to create a desirable arm wear which goes beyond just utility to capture the natural feminine elegance of limb movement.
The experiment uses simple mechanisms to move under gravity, in response to the speed and rotation of the residual limb, in an attempt to create liveliness. The final prototype is an over-centre wrist which responds to angle of the forearm. The thumb and index finger are articulated and weighted with hinge at the palm. The prototypes were prepared using foam board, balsa, maple wood, elastic and steel.
