Visualized as a sculpture, the Soumaya Museumv by LAR + Fernando Romero presenting an amorphous structure is gonna be a modern emblem of art or construction for Mexico City. Featuring a facade finished with translucent concrete and steel columns of varying dimensions, the structure makes use of natural light to illuminate the structure during the day, without tainting the structural cohesiveness of the building. Displaying a diverse collection of international painting, sculpture and object art from the 14th century to the present, which also includes the world’s second largest collection of Rodin sculptures, in the 20,000 square meters of exhibition space, the art museums also accommodates an auditorium, library, offices, a restaurant and gathering lounge, together with two underground levels of storage and restoration labs and four underground levels of parking. The Soumaya Museum is due to be completed by 2010. Check out the video after the jump.
